Director, Insights & Research – FMCG Industry!

We have a terrific role available for that confident Director of Insights & Research.

In this exciting role you will be tasked to champion and develop the Insights Center of Excellence, representing the voice of the consumer and shopper in the Canadian and US markets. You will take ownership for spearheading and driving an insights-first learning agenda which supports corporate strategy, marketing, innovation, and sales with a primary emphasis on improving brand equity and market share. The role will curate and interpret insights to help shape brand positioning, product and packaging innovation/renovation, marketing communication, and go-to-market strategies. Advanced insight synthesis and persuasive storytelling skills are a must. A successful leader is highly collaborative, working with key stakeholders across department functions with a sense of urgency to deliver results on time and on budget.

The ideal candidate will have research and insight work experience at both a Tier 1/ Tier 2 CPG company as well as at a Research / data supplier such as Ipsos, Nielsen, Kantar/ Millward Brown, etc. Our client would love someone who has had work experience in Brand Marketing (this will be the client for this director). You need demonstrated primary research experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

What you should expect:

  • Inform the strategic planning process by delivering insights, implications, and opportunities in macro trends, market forces, industry dynamics, and the 5Cs
  • Guide brand strategy and positioning through consumer segmentation, U&A, demand space opportunities, and other sources
  • Identify and validate innovation / renovation pipeline territories and opportunities
  • Partner with the product development team to design and execute new product stage gate testing protocols, packaging, claims, and other required testing
  • Evaluate brand health and brand equity for our brands and the competition
  • Design and analyze research/data to evaluate marketing mix and campaign effectiveness
  • Design and manage the integrated Path to Loyalty journey maps which inform consumer and shopper experiences
  • Ad hoc research
  • Demonstrated skillset in advanced storytelling, insight development, and business implication packaging
  • Determine research objectives and identify appropriate research methodologies
  • Develop project briefs, execute the RFP process, select, and negotiate supplier contracts
  • Field work oversight and project management – on time and on budget
  • Create positive employee experiences for your team
  • Identify professional development opportunities and execute enrichment activities
  • Provide timely feedback and active coaching
  • Proactively lead work prioritization and timely deliverables
  • Data and research asset management
  • Knowledge inventory and gap identification
  • Learning agenda management and budget planning
  • Proactively investigates and builds new research and insights capabilities
  • Builds and maintains a broad industry network with service providers and influencers

What you should bring:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Consumer-Packaged Goods and/or research supplier
  • At least 7 years research/insights experience
  • 3-5 years of Brand Marketing experience
  • Deep knowledge of research tools and primary/secondary research methodologies
  • Highly experienced in Nielsen, IRI, customer data platforms, and other syndicated services
  • High acumen to understand, interpret, and synthesize syndicated data and custom research
  • Advanced ability to transform consumer/shopper knowledge into meaningful and actionable insights
  • Strong storyboarding and presentation development skills. Ability to coach others
  • Advanced ability to lead, communicate and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Strong planning skills and project management
  • Highly organized, responsive, and a proactive collaborator
