Director Occupational Health and Safety

Our client is a leading national oil and gas and utility pipeline and facility services organization.

We are currently in an active search for a Director of Occupational Health & Safety responsible for Canadian operations. This position will work out of the company’s Toronto, Ontario office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ability to lead in a variety EHS engagements, including, but no limited to strategy, enterprise safety culture transformation, EHS management system, implementation support, audit programs.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to interpret business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
  • Ability to identify IT program development, such as software selection and implementation, business process mapping, project management in the areas of OHS, Environmental and Risk Management
  • Professional presence with the ability to quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise
  • Represent the company on a variety of industry associations and government health and safety committees.
  • Work effectively as a team member, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication and updating team leaders on progress
  • Build strong internal relationships with other departments across the organization and external relationships with clients.
  • A dedication to teamwork and leadership
  • Manage a centralized Corporate OHS dept and lead a team of internal Safety Coordinators and contract Safety Coordinators within various divisions.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in strategy evaluation and development, management system design and implementation, process improvement and reporting, environment, occupational health &safety, industrial hygiene and operational risk.
  • Previous experience in the Pipeline, Utility and Water Sewer industry.
  • Manage Workers Compensation and return to work programs.
  • Responsible for all company safety training and ensuring training and certifications are current
  • Regular travel across Canada in the range of 25-35%
  • Ensure all company certifications are maintained and manage all required audits, ongoing requirements. Eg. COR or ISO Safety Certifications
  • Certification in performing audits and incident investigations.
  • Development and implementation of corrective actions.

 Education / Development Requirements

  • University/College in the field of Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental and Risk Management. OR experience in a Management Role responsible for the execution of health, safety, environment and risk management programs coupled with industry related training/certification.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) would be considered a strong asset
  • Experience in the pipeline or facility management industry sectors an asset.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills, coaching and mentoring ability
  • Ability to travel to project sites
  • Strong organizational and program development skills,
  • Abilities work under tight deadlines

Remuneration for this position will consists of a base salary of $150K+ commensurate upon experience, bonus program, company vehicle and full benefit program including RRSP
