Director of Business Development

Our client is a leading supplier of laser process systems, headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario. The Director of Business Development is responsible for building our client’s global market position by locating and developing business relationships.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Develop and implement strategic sales plans for our client’s international sales growth.
• Develop account sales plans and strategy with company management.
• Understand customer requirements, both technical and financial.
• Lead the creation of presentations, proposals, and quotes to secure new customer relationships.
• Expand business with customers by becoming a trusted contact.
• Negotiate contracts and terms of sale with customers.
• Develop and manage leads, including research and acquisition of targeted lead lists.
• Continuous learning to remain knowledgeable of current and upcoming industry requirements.
• Create, manage and track international sales opportunities via CRM.
• Conduct new account prospecting and qualification through sales calls both independently and jointly with management and staff.
• Develop, train, and manage global sales and support channel partners.
• Lead and/or participate in product demonstrations.
• International travel to customer and/or channel partner locations (up to 50% of time).
• Attend trade shows promoting our client’s solutions.

Experience and Requirements: 

• Post-secondary education, bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
• Excellent English communication skills, both orally and in writing. Other languages (e.g. German, French, Korean) are an asset.
• New business development experience within the Semiconductor or Electronics Industry.
• Basic technical understanding of electronic component production and test is a strong asset.
• Experience with direct international sales activities in NA, EU, and APAC.
• Self-motivated individual who exhibits a sense of urgency in all sales related activities.
• Experience in work with (or establishing) international sales and support channels.
• Proven experience in account penetration and development strategies, conducting cold calls, qualifying prospects, leading technical sales process and strategy, making sales presentations, closing techniques, and developing service and pricing proposals.
• Team player who can work with multiple departments to deliver results.
• Outstanding presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
