General Manager – Industrial

About Our Client: Our client is well established yet growing industrial products and services company.

 

Position Scope: To direct, promote, and coordinate the operations of the Mississauga operations in a manner that will optimize the company’s performance in terms of customer satisfaction and profitability.  This will be achieved by improving the company’s efficiency and profitability, while simultaneously helping achieve the company’s mission goals through an ongoing commitment to service excellence. The General Manager will report to the Vice-President & COO.

 

Responsibilities:

Planning Administration

  • Provide leadership and vision to the organization and its employees;
  • Develop both annual and long-term (5+ year) plans to ensure long-term profitability;
  • Prepares quarterly and annual report summarizing progress on both annual and long-term plans;
  • Research and prepare analysis documents and proposals to assist the organization in achieving it’s long-term goals;
  • Monitor industry trends – including new product innovations, competitive analysis and other associated data to ensure long-term health and profitability;
  • Monitors competition and trends and makes business recommendations for review;

 

Human Resources

  • Cultivate a positive culture which mirrors Trust, Hard Work and Passion;
  • Recruitment and contracting of company and project staff;
  • Ongoing employee development and training;
  • Policy development and documentation;
  • Ongoing employee relations and performance management;
  • Oversee Health and Safety program for the operations;
  • Employment and compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting;

 

Financial Management

  • Provide regular updates to upper management regarding overall company performance both quantitatively and qualitatively;
  • Assist with creation of budget and goals with staff within (60) days of fiscal year end;
  • Lead and execute quarterly and annual performance meetings with upper management;
  • Ensure credit is not extended to customers on COD;
  • Establishing partnerships with key vendors to ensure long-term, strategic partnerships; resulting in reduced material costs;

Scope

  • Manage and coach operational department managers (Sales, Service, Installs, PSP/PSR, Shop);
  • Drive increased efficiencies and profitability while maintaining standard of work quality
  • Assist in development of forms and tools to increase company efficiency;
  • Direct service activities to ensure safety and compliance with quality control standards, regulatory compliance, and legal requirements for all staff, vehicles and equipment;
  • Ensure we are consistently exceeding customer expectations;
  • Ensure all customers receive friendly and efficient service from all employees – and ultimately, ensure our standard of service excellence is delivered consistently;
  • Handle all customer complaints promptly and professionally;

 

Management Leadership

  • Maintain an atmosphere in which employees willingly produce at maximum capacity;
  • Assign employee responsibilities, including developing and monitoring job descriptions;
  • Develop performance standards for employees;
  • Supervise ongoing employee training to ensure continued development of all employees;
  • Identify and provide opportunities for employee advancement and development;
  • Complete and administer a yearly review with all direct reports;
  • In consulation with HR, develop, maintain and execute a salary administration program for technicians and ensure the company is compensating above industry standard wages at all times;
  • Continually build upon personal leadership and management skills and product knowledge;

 

Company Policies

  • Enforce and uphold all company policies;
  • Ensure company facilities and equipment meet all Provincial, Federal and OHSA
  • regulations;
  • Ensure the company does not receive any OHSA, provincial or federal citations;
  • Ensure our customers are trained and aware of potential safety hazards with equipment;
  • Ensure our facility is maintained in a presentable condition at all times;

Profitability and Sales Performance

  • Establish annual sales performance, market share and profitability goals;
  • Focus on driving the organization to continually meet and exceed these goals;
  • Determine potential areas for market penetration;
  • Oversee performance of purchasing, sales and service functions to optimize profitability;
  • Oversee parts pricing to ensure the organization is maximizing gross margins;
  • Oversee inventory policies to minimize costs while delivering “one-call completion”
  • Implement an inventory control system to ensure optimal inventory turnover;

 

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Technical aptitude is an asset
  • Strong ability to lead, develop and train/mentor staff
  • Ability to prioritize and handle numerous assignments simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, strong sense of responsibility and self-motivation, and ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent language and communication skills both verbal and written-
  • Attention to detail is critical, ability to multi-task are all essential to this position
  • Valid Drivers license

 

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience within a similar industry
  • Bachelor’s level or post-graduate level education preferred within a relevant field
  • Prior experience in sales or technical products is an asset
