Marketing and Business Development Manager – Legal Industry

Our client is a top law firm.

Position Scope:

Reporting to the Strategic Initiatives Director, the Project Manager needs a combination of subject-matter expertise and project management skills. They must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and team leadership abilities, as well as the capacity to work with cross-functional teams to accomplish overall project goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Building, developing, and growing any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Effectively adhering to and applying industry project management practices and standards.
  • Developing and managing project specifications, technical design and requirements in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Creating and executing project work plans, setting project timelines, milestones, and deadlines and revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Identifying and managing project dependencies and critical path.
  • Proactively managing changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Managing day-to-day operational aspects of project and scope including budgets and resources.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations and progress to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Coordinating work with cross-functional team leaders and monitoring and reporting on project status.
  • Building, developing, and growing any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Identifying resources needed, assigning individual responsibilities and supervising work.
  • Coaching, mentoring, motivating and supervising project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Judgment with tasks at hand and appropriate communication with direct supervisors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Report and escalate any variances in budgetary spend or requirements as needed.
  • Conducting project post mortems and creating a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in personnel management and leadership.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently and flexible during times of change.
  • Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources including upper management, clients, and other departments.
  • Ability to defuse tension among project team, should it arise.
  • Ability to bring project to successful completion through political sensitivity.
  • Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products.
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Strong analytical and customer service skills.
  • Strong focus on delivery and quality; ability to ensure quality and accuracy of reports and deliverables, with a focus on attention to detail.
  • Expertise in requirements gathering for areas such as Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, or any aspects of a Law Firm.
  • Experience working within the legal industry an asset.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal).
  • Superior organization skills and attention to detail.
  • High level of confidence to make suggestions for process improvement and issues resolution.

Education and Experience:

  • University/college degree or equivalent industry experience plus 10 years of progressive project management related experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a requirement.
  • Exposure to SAP is a definite benefit to the success of this role.
  • High level of competency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Microsoft Project and Visio.
