Quality Engineer – Foodservice Industry

Our GTA West client within the Foodservice industry is seeking a Quality Engineer to perform a wide range of tasks in support of quality assurance, product development/improvement, and compliance to customer and regulatory requirements.  Liaising with Procurement and Sales, you will oversee all testing activities and equipment maintenance in the lab, as well as leading complaint investigation, working with relevant departments across the organization, customers, distributors and suppliers

  • Lead investigation on product quality issues, including performing and monitoring product inspection/testing, documenting the complaints, and following up on corrective actions
  • Manage lab activities, external testing, and maintain/calibrate lab equipment
  • Prepare and maintain product specifications in company database
  • Prepare submissions and track status of obtaining Letter of No Objection from Health Canada
  • Maintain Medical Device Establishment License and prepare for periodic inspection from Health Canada
  • Assist in preparing for annual mock recalls, internal audits, and Good Distribution Practices audits by external party
  • Conduct technical research and develop protocol/SOP’s for new tests and processes
  • Support Sales and Customer Service teams to address technical inquiries from customers
  • Specify and communicate technical needs (specs, use conditions, material compliance) with Procurement/Sourcing in Shenzhen in developing new products and improving current products
  • Offer input on product match for bids to maximize efficacy of product offerings
  • Recruit, train, and supervise activities of Product Analyst(s)


Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding and experience of working in defined Quality systems (ISO, TL, TS, GMP, etc.)
  • Experience working in regulated industries with defined protocols, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Strong documentation skills in defining and keeping best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create and deliver presentations, reports, etc.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and work independently.
  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of management and customers.


Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in Quality
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or another technical field required
  • Experience with HAACP, GDP/GMP, or Health Canada practices is a plus.
  • Experience with materials testing lab equipment
