Retail General Manager

Our client operates industry leading hardware stores in Western Canada, and they are looking for a positive and hardworking individual to become their Retail General Manager for their location just outside of Calgary. This individual will be responsible for managing the store operations, marketing, merchandising, sales & profitability, cost containment & leads, and managing the Store Management team.


  • Maximize store sales & profit
  • Develop short and long-term store business plan
  • Monitor & control the operational budget
  • Lead store operations within the specific guidelines of current company policy
  • Use available information systems to analyze historical and current customer purchasing trends
  • Work with our Office Manager to ensure cash reports and deposits balance daily and investigate any cash shortages or shrinkage concerns
  • Ensure that all staff maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide exceptional customer service and to maximize sales
  • Recognize and reward employees who provide exceptional customer service and/or demonstrate excellent skills
  • Lead, motivate & retain Store Management team and ensure the performance of team- conducting annual performance reviews
  • Manage the training & development, succession planning of management team
  • Handle escalated customer complaints, disputes or team conflicts
  • Prepare reports using our Profit Master system on business indicators (i.e. inventory control, sales, price over-rides etc.) and report on department activities
  • Participate and represent the store in local community events and recommend charitable donations to our President
  • Represent the company through local building/construction organizations such as the CHBA (Canadian Home Builders Association)
  • Ensure the implementation and management of company Health and Safety program
  • Ensure strong participation and promotion of advertising program (flyers, catalogues, website, etc)


  • High school diploma required; Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business Commerce is considered an asset
  • 3-5 years of experience managing a retail chain store
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with contractors & rapport building activities
  • Background in Contracts Sales, Retail Sales, Installations Sales, and/or Yard operations is an asset
  • Experience using Profit Master or another inventory management/information system

Remuneration for this position will consists of a competitive base salary between $100-125K commensurate upon experience in addition to bonus and full benefit program.
