Position Scope:

Our client is currently seeking an experienced Site Director to join their Site Selection team.  Based out of their Community Office in South Bruce, the successful candidate would be responsible for ensuring effective execution of the Company’s work activities in the regional siting community.  This includes managing department staff and overseeing other staff and contractors periodically assigned to perform work in the siting region. This position is also responsible to develop lasting relationships with local industry, elected officials and key community members to ensure that the final site selection process is effectively implemented in the siting area.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct the execution of municipal engagement programs in the siting region including community well-being, assessment, partnership and transportation.
  • Oversee and direct siting region staff responsible for managing media inquiries, building strong relationships, leading communications strategies, including interfacing with colleagues with responsibilities for digital and internal communications.
  • Using collaborative skills, develop and manage across functional work execution in the siting region. Oversee all work performed by safety assessment, engineering, geoscience, regulatory affairs, site selection and government relations in the siting region, coordinating work to ensure the Company’s departments and the community expectations are aligned. Ensure the effective execution of the Company’s activities in the siting region.
  • Establish processes to ensure effective and seamless communication between head office and activities occurring in the siting region. Maintain current knowledge of activities and relationships in all areas of the Company’s program.
  • Lead the development of plans and strategies, aligned to the Company’s Site Selection process to advance the Company’s site-specific community engagement and stakeholder management objectives. Lead discussions to secure a suitable hosting agreement with local community; responsible for ensuring willingness and building awareness and support within the community.
  • Monitor siting project milestones, deliverables and budget to ensure activities are aligned.
  • Establish short- and long-term business plans and strategies to meet organizational and departmental objectives. Develop and manage departmental budget.  Provide input into budget requirements, identifying future needs and providing rationale and context on current spending.
  • Participate in strategic planning and project management activities; provide input into business and operational planning and decision making at the executive level. Also participate as a member of the Company’s Management team meetings on safety, project reporting, cost control, governance and business planning.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key community, industry leaders and stakeholders. From time to time and as determined in collaboration with the Vice President of Stakeholder Relations, act as a media spokesperson on behalf of the Company.
  • Develop materials, reports and presentations for Board, Committee and Advisory Council meetings, community meetings, Municipal/County/Indigenous Council meetings.
  • Supervise and provide direction to departmental staff, establish clear roles and responsibilities and annual performance objectives as well as provide regular performance feedback, coaching and training.
  • Ensure employee health and safety, supporting a strong safety culture and ensuring employee activities meet or exceed the health, safety and environment requirements as outlined in Company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of municipal affairs, governance structures, community development and public engagement.
  • Hands on experience with managing business plans and budgets required.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to influence others at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada and must be able to meet security clearance requirements.

 

Education and Experience:

  • 4-year university education in a STEAM field or an equivalent level of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of 12 years work experience to acquire a broad set of business and administrative skills and strong public speaking and relationship building skills.
  • Experience leading a team.
