Position Scope:

The Warehouse & Distribution Manager provides hands-on, proactive management of employees and implements new procedures to improve operational effectiveness. They manage the day to day shift operations of the distribution facility to ensure metrics are maintained or exceeded and the highest level of customer excellence is provided.

Reporting to the Regional Operations Leader, the Warehouse & Distribution Manager will supervise the receipt, dispatching and storage of merchandise in the warehouse. They will oversee picking, storage, receiving, dispatching, security, maintenance, sanitation and administrative functions. They will oversee, train, evaluate and mentor staff. They will ensure the maintenance of company assets.

The Warehouse & Distribution Manager will multitask effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and perform duties in a manner that maximizes profits for the organization. The ideal candidate will be dedicated and have proven leadership capabilities.


  • Oversee receiving, warehousing and distribution operations
  • Manage all center activities ensuring operational goals are achieved by determined deadlines
  • Establish and implement productivity, quality and cost measurements & strategies to achieve desired operational results
  • Ensure timely and accurate distribution of inbound and/or outgoing freight daily, in accordance with established standards and procedures
  • Ensure orders are processed accurately and in a timely manner according to SOPs and customer requirements
  • Ensure a high level of customer service excellence, responding to requests promptly and resolving issues quickly
  • Maintain documentation and keep accurate records of warehouse activities for head office and senior leadership team
  • Develop and maintain written documentation of all SOPs
  • Ensure sufficient staff resources, materials and supplies on hand at all times
  • Ensure warehouse is organized and set up for next shift
  • Ensure equipment is in a safe, efficient operating condition at all times
  • Ensure effective and safe use of warehouse equipment
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and repairs of facility equipment
  • Address customer complaints and escalated items in a professional and expedient manner
  • Conduct site tours when required
  • Ensure staff overtime and warehouse costs are within approved budget
  • Assist with deliveries and day to day floor operations where required
  • Effectively manage team, focusing on retention and professional development
  • Facilitate and/or conduct all required employee training; including forklift and safety certification programs.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and work environment
  • Ensure the adherence to Occupational Health and Safety regulations, OSHA, DOT HAZMAT and HACCP regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures
  • Manage site inventory control processes
  • Completion of special projects as assigned

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven communication skills – written & oral
  • Strong computer proficiency in MS Suite of products
  • Warehouse Management System and/or ERP software experience
  • Experience utilizing cycle count methodologies and performing full physical inventory counts
  • Experience managing multiple activities and deadlines, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and mentor employees
  • Experience facilitating effective employee training
  • Knowledge of and experience ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, DOT, HAZMAT and HACCP regulations
  • Experience creating & operating within budget guidelines
  • Capacity to embrace and lead change
  • Ability to exercise solid judgement and resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines
  • Must be able to obtain forklift certification and operate forklift and other equipment as needed
  • Ability to comfortably lift and carry up to 25 kg
  • Material handling & equipment maintenance experience

Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years of warehouse and distribution management experience
  • Post-secondary degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Lean Six Sigma certification as well as 5S practices is considered a strong asset
